Who needs an application for residency?
This is a universal application for multiple medical postgraduate programs. Applicants can receive an accommodation whether the program they’ve chosen participates in the National Resident Matching Program.
What is this application for?
The application has been designed by the Association of American Medical Colleges in order to optimize the application process for medical postgraduates. Although some postgraduate programs still require a unique submission form, most of them recognize the universal application. Its benefit lies in multi functionality: a student can copy as many applications as he needs and only add different addresses to apply to several programs at once.
Is it accompanied by other forms?
Yes, it is. This document is a part of an educational process, so it should be followed by a letter from the dean and references from the student’s supervisors at hospital trainings, scientific conferences, etc.
When is this application due?
Residency application has the same due date as the application for a program. You can check this due date at the various universities’ official web pages.
How do I fill out a residency for application?
You can divide this process into three parts. The first part is easy: just answer the questions on page 2 and 4. They concern your personal information, your educational history, preferable dates for your interview, etc. The second part is more difficult: on page 3 you have to write a personal statement. This is the part where you must present yourself as a perfect applicant, describe your academic success and specify your motivation. If you’ve been a part of other medical educational programs, include that information. Write about your future plans and your goals for the postgraduate program. And finally, the third part is a list of contacts with people who wrote your references. Remember to attach their letters to the application. Also don’t forget to remove the instruction page (page 6) before you staple your application and send it.
Where do I send this application?
All the necessary mailing addresses are listed in the description of the program you’ve chosen.
